*This post is dedicated to Bozzy, who wanted to know why I liked this movie so much. Thanks for giving me an idea for a post.*

Even as a child, I never took movies at face value. In elementary school, all my friends loved the movie "Little Giants" for its slapstick, potty humor. I remember thinking, "That movie really shows you to never give up on your dreams, even if you're afraid." Yeah, I was a deep little girl, I know.

But, honestly, I get meaning from most movies I watch.
One of my favorite movies is "Signs", with Mel Gibson.

The previews and movie trailer make one believe that "Signs" is about aliens in a cornfield. It is truly so much more than that. "Signs" is about believing in the idea that everything happens for a reason. It is an unbelievably symbolic movie. When related to the real world, the "alien" is a symbol for anything strange, scary, unknown or harmful in our lives. This movie touches on serious topics, like religion, stereotypes, death of a parent/spouse, etc.

I believe in God and, for me, He is the writer, director and producer of this complicated script we call life. Someone else may believe in another higher being. Either way, most of us admit that there is a divine force that helps us out, when we need it the most.

The movie "Signs" reminds us that all of our talents, and even our strange quirks, are given to us for a reason, even if we don't understand it at the time.

For those of you who haven't seen it, I won't ruin it for you. But, if you have seen it and didn't like it, I urge you to watch it again and look at it from a symbolic aspect, rather than a literal one.
